GirlHQ - Our Vision

Survivor Defined. Survivor Led.

Responsible storytelling begins with empathy, understanding, centering, and believing affected persons. We believe that building a legacy for Survivors is intersectional, inclusive, and unapologetically driven by our expertise.

“Let us break the cycles of violence, poverty, intergenerational trauma, and recognize we can be the last generation of Sexual and Domestic Violence Survivors. We can choose to be good ancestors by righting wrongs, centering and building policies with the most marginalized and vulnerable among us.

“Accountability is a daily practice, as important as forgiveness and deferring to those who are most affected. There was no Survivor sisterhood in the US for me when I survived the six-day-long gang rape that changed my life’s trajectory.

“But my sisterhood found me, gave me grace, grounded my soul. They nourish me every day and challenge me to do more. So it begins with my home, GirlHQ, a place where love, healing, and conversations about survivorship happen every day with me, my daughter, and our many sisters and friends. Join us, and watch this space for exciting announcements about what it means to build a legacy.”

Join our Survivor-led programs in wellness and supporting partner organizations in deepening their understanding of ethical programming and communications with Survivors. Survivors will share strategies for non-Survivor human and civil rights advocates and experts to engage in this work holistically.

Survivor Circles

Responsible storytelling begins with empathy, understanding, centering, and believing affected persons. We believe that building a legacy for Survivors is intersectional, inclusive, and driven by our expertise. Advocates must embrace accountability.

In May 2021, we launched Survivor-led programs in wellness and supporting partner organizations in deepening their understanding of ethical programming and communications with Survivors. Survivors will share strategies for non-Survivor civil and human rights advocates and experts to engage in this work holistically.

The invite-only Survivor Circles are grounded in a trauma-sensitive, human rights-based approach on how to tell our stories, saying yes to media, saying no and building boundaries, and embracing our resilience. These 90-minute sessions will be guided by simple self-care techniques, and address somatic and rhythm-based bodywork.

By request, we offer co-learning, trust-starting Survivor and Advocate workshops to deepen Advocate's understanding of working with Trauma Survivors, and a special intensive workshop focusing on Peer-to-Peer and Organizational and Corporate environment training for sensitizing the workplace to Trauma Survivors.
